Judith Stoffer
Judith is a certified medical and bioscientific illustrator. Her broad range of skills has taken her into projects as diverse as human embryo development animation and microphotography of mosquito morphology.
A native of California, Judith acquired her secondary and undergraduate education there, receiving a bachelor’s degree, in 1979, in the History of Art from the University of California, Berkeley, where her studies focused on the arts of Asia. But, a desire to expand her skills as a professional artist led in the early 1990s to the study of 17th-19th century European art history and classical realism painting techniques at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore. From 1997-2000, she taught the Human Anatomy for Artists program there, as well as giving workshops on face and hand anatomy. She subsequently attended The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s graduate program in Art as Applied to Medicine. She was the recipient of the 2002 Alan W. Cole Scholarship, given by the Vesalius Trust, for the best graduate research project in medical illustration, and received a Master of Arts degree in medical and biological illustration in 2002. She was board certified in medical illustration in 2004. She is a member of the Association of Medical Illustrators, The American Medical Writers Association, and has been a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators since 1996.
The synthesis of these art and publishing experiences has provided the foundation for her award-winning work in medical illustration.
